Bhubaneswar, Nov. 21: The Centre will spend over Rs 2,475 crore over three years for development activities in 55 districts of nine states, including Bengal, affected by Left-wing extremism.
The amount will be given at the rate of Rs 15 crore a district a year.
Besides Bengal, the shortlisted states are Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the police chiefs and chief secretaries of the nine states.
Another Rs 37 crore will be given to the 55 affected districcts for building motorable roads under the Prime Ministerís Gram Sadak Yojana.
The meeting was presided over by Union home secretary . Gopalaswamy.
