Hyderabad: Four Indian boxers — Mohammed Ali Qamar, Akhil Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Vijender Kumar — reached the finals on Wednesday.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Qamar beat Kendelkachew Kebede of Ethiopia 21-12 in the light flyweight category.
Jitender prevailed over Uzbekistan’s Ikrom Berdiev in the heavyweight section. Flyweight Akhil recorded a runaway 44-25 victory over Paulus Ambunda of Namibia, while Vijender defeated Nurzhan of Kazakhstan in the light welterweight division.
In other sections, Parvinder Singh lost to Busan Asian Games silver medallist Ahamad Ali of Pakistan. The referee stopped the bout in the third round when the Indian lost his balance following a right hook by Ahamad. Ramanand was the another Indian boxer, who will have to be content with the bronze medal, as he lost his semi-final bout against Jong-Sub Baik of Korea in the lightweight category. (PTI)
