New Delhi, Oct. 23 (PTI): Finance minister Jaswant Singh has registered himself for a one-year diploma course here to learn Urdu.
Singh, 65, is now a registered student of the correspondence course that started from October 1, an official of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu said.
“It is an honour for the council that such a high-profile person has enrolled himself for the course,” she added.
Singh has already paid the requisite fee of Rs 300 for the entire course. He would have to complete assignments to qualify for the diploma by the end of the council’s academic year (September 2004), the official said.
A diploma student has to complete written assignments on the basis of a workbook provided to him. He would also be given cassettes to learn pronunciation.
Like every year, the Delhi-based council advertised in newspapers this January and received about 10,000 applications, including that of Singh.
