Oct. 20: In its crackdown on Naxalite outfits in the wake of the Purulia ambush, police today arrested two more People’s War activists.
Bhim Soren, also known as Turra, was arrested from Gurpana village in Bandwan where alleged Naxalites blew up a police vehicle, killing an officer-in-charge and injuring several policemen. Soren was said to be involved in the October 11 ambush in the Kantajora forest bordering Jharkhand.
Dipak Das was arrested from Tehatta in Nadia for having links with the extremists in Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore. With Das and Soren, the number of people arrested in the case has gone up to 19. About 50 others, including a zonal member of the CPM, had been detained.
“The operation to flush out militants is on round the clock,” said Purulia superintendent of police V.K. Goyal. A battalion of RAF, armed policemen and Eastern Frontier Rifles jawans have set up camps near the blast site.
