New Delhi, Oct. 15: The Indian unit of Caterpillar Inc, the world’s biggest maker of construction equipment, today said it will make the local manufacturing facility its global outsourcing hub for supply of components.
“This is one of the possibilities we are exploring,” Don E. DaSaro, commercial director of the firm’s earthmoving and mining equipment unit told The Telegraph during the launch of its “424 Backhoeloader”.
Officials said the “424 Backhoeloader’ would have a local content of around 60 per cent and has been priced competitively. Caterpillar India currently makes trucks, front-end loaders, crawler tractors and backhoeloaders at its plant in Tiruvallur near Chennai.
Graham J. Lythgoe, India region director of Caterpillar, said backhoeloaders accounted for nearly half of the country’s construction equipment market.
