Calcutta,Sept. 27: Bhaichung Bhutia’s stint with Malaysia’s Perak FC came to an unhappy end on Saturday as his team crashed out of the Malaysian Cup.
In the second leg, semi-final home match at their own ground in Ipoh, Perak lost 1-3 to Sabah to squander the advantage of securing a 1-1 draw in the first leg match last Saturday. Perak lost 2-4 on aggregate.
According to information received here, the teams were locked 0-0 till the 79th minute, before the visitors took the lead and made it 2-0 in the 88th.
Bhutia, who scored in the first leg and had three shots saved by the Sabah goalkeeper in Saturday’s match, set up a reducer minutes later, to kindle hopes of an improbable comeback.
However, another goal by Sabah seconds from time sealed the fate of the match. Perak had hired Bhutia from East Bengal for the Malaysian Cup.
