Chandigarh: Bengal defeated Himachal Pradesh by 59 runs in the J.P. Atray Memorial cricket tournament on Sunday. The win fetched Bengal five points, including a bonus point.
After being sent in, Bengal made 213 for six in 50 overs. Subhamoy Das top-scored with 61 off 72 balls before retiring hurt. Sanjib Sanyal made an unbeaten 41 off 53 balls. They added 69 for the fifth wicket.
Bengal bowled out their opponents for 154 in 38.3 overs. Sanyal did a good job with the ball too, taking four for 16 in eight overs. Anirban Chatterjee claimed three for 18 in five overs.
Sanyal was adjudged Man of the Match.
Vikram Rathore and Vikramjit Malik put on 44 for the opening wicket for Himachal before the former was run out.
Madhya Pradesh beat Bihar by two wickets in the other match.
Bengal 213/6 in 50 ovs (Amitava Chakarborti 35, Deep Dasgupta 20, Subhamoy Das 61, Sanjib Sanayal 41). Himachal Pradesh 154 in 38.3 ovs (Sangram Singh 46, Sanjib Sanayal 4/18, Aniran Chatterjee 3/18). Bengal won by 59 runs. (PTI)
