Pressured by tourism operators, the state government has decided to lift its ban on the sale of liquor during the Pujas. All foreign liquor off-shops and bars across the city will remain open between October 3 and 5.
Liquor shops and bars will remain closed on October 2 (Saptami) to mark Gandhi Jayanti. On Ashtami, off-shops will remain open from 1 pm to 10 pm; from 10 am to 1 pm on Navami and from 10 am to 4 pm on Dashami. Bars will remain open till 11 pm.
“The decision was taken to facilitate tourists who visit the city for the Pujas,” said excise commissioner Satish Tewari on Wednesday. Last year, the government had allowed off-shops and bars to remain open on Saptami and Navami, under pressure from the travel and tourism lobby.
