New York: Mahesh Bhupathi and Paola Suarez conceded their second round mixed doubles tie against Pavel Vizner and Liezel Huber at the US Open on Sunday.
Argentine Suarez wasn’t feeling well after her three-set singles match, which she won.
There was mixed luck for India among juniors as Tara Iyer made it to the main draw while Karan Rastogi, Somdev Dev Varman and Sanaa Bhambri exited in the first round.
Tara did well to come through two qualifying rounds, beat Americans Logan Hansen 6-3, 6-1 in the first qualifying round and Lauren Albanese 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 in the second. She is up against top seed Bethanie Mattek in the first round of the main draw.
Dev Varman went down 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7), 5-7 to Frederico Gil of Portugal while Rastogi fell to Adam Fass of the US 4-6, 6-4, 0-6.
Bhambri was forced to retire midway due to a problem with her left elbow. She was trailing Volha Havartsova 2-6, 0-3, and is likely to miss doubles as well. Arun P. Rajagopalan lost to Horacio Zeballos 4-6, 4-6 in the boys’ singles. (PTI)
