Bhutia’s 1st for Perak

Calcutta, Aug. 30: Bhaichung Bhutia has opened scoring in Malaysia. The Indian star scored the first in Perak FC’s 2-1 win over Malaka in Saturday’s Malaysian Cup match.

Bhutia, who was hospitalised after Wednesday’s match with high fever, played the full match and scored in the first half. Perak took a 2-0 lead after the breather before conceding a late equaliser.

“I started feeling tired in the closing stages, but finished the match nonetheless,” Bhutia told The Telegraph, while travelling to Ipoh (where Perak FC is based) from Malaka on Saturday.

It was Bhutia’s third match in the Malaysian Cup. In this tournament, 16 teams are divided into four groups, with the top two from each proceeding to the quarter finals.

The teams play each other twice in the group league, on home and away basis. Saturday’s was Perak’s away match at Malaka and they had won the home match 5-0 on Wednesday.

Bhutia will be in Mumbai for a promotional programme on Sunday and return to Ipoh on Tuesday. Perak’s next match is slated for Wednesday.
