Behrampore, Aug. 26: A couple was hacked to death and their son injured by unknown assailants at Barafkhana, about 200 km from Calcutta, reports our correspondent.
Police said Jamshed Sheikh, 51, and Noorjahan Bibi, 41, were attacked by a group of four men around 8.30 last evening.
The police are looking for the suspects on the basis of the description provided by the son, Sherful Sheikh, 17.
Subdivisional police officer of Lalbagh Subrata Mitra said Sherful suffered deep cuts and is at Behrampore General Hospital. He told the police that his father had three wives and brothers of Rakshina Bibi, his second wife, were behind the murders. “Four men had come to our house and threatened my father. They are the ones who killed my parents,” Sherful said.
Sabina Khatun, 15, who had escaped last night from Sheelayan, a state-run women’s home in Behrampore, was brought back from a nearby village today. A security guard and three employees of the home were showcaused. Two other girls, who had fled the home on August 17, are yet to be traced.
