Chennai, July 11: Madras High Court today ordered the release of the government employees who were arrested and directed all agitating workers to approach the sate administrative tribunal for relief, reports our special correspondent
A bench of Chief Justice B. Subashan Reddy and Justice K. Govindaraj tonight delivered the judgment while disposing of writ petitions by government employee organisations and trade unions. The petitions challenged the constitutional validity of the Essential Services Maintenance Act and the latest ordinance amending it. Without prior “exhaustion of the remedies before the…tribunal”, the writ petitions were “not maintainable”, the bench said.
The judges said “we would be happy to see all the arrested out of jail by the dawn of Saturday” on a personal bond of Rs 1,000 each.
