Industrial growth at 5.7%

New Delhi, July 11: The country’s industrial growth improved to 5.7 per cent in April-May this year as against 4.1 per cent in the same period last year. This is despite mining and electricity sectors’ poor performance. According to the Index of Industrial Production, manufacturing and electricity segments fuelled the industrial growth. Manufacturing sector recorded a 5.2 per cent growth during April-May as against 4 per cent last year. The mining sector displayed dismal performance by ticking 4.2 per cent growth compared with 5.8 per cent last year.

Cellular base

New Delhi, July 11: The cellular subscriber base has increased by 9.72 lakh in June as against the previous high of about 9 lakh in March this year. The total subscriber base rose to 1.51 crore in June compared with about 1.41 crore in May, according to the Cellular Operators Association of India.

Hero Honda

New Delhi, July 11: Hero Honda Motors reported a 13.4 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 157.82 crore during April-June over Rs 139.16 crore year-on-year. Net sales was up 5.37 per cent to Rs 1,359.82 crore (Rs 1,290.40 crore).

Enron plan

Houston, July 11: Enron on Friday filed its plan to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy by packaging its international and pipeline assets as separate firms. The plan includes several previously announced components such as the spin-offs of its pipeline and global assets.

AirTel card

New Delhi, July 11: AirTel today launched IndiaOne long distance calling card that will enable all AirTel customers who have not opted for STD and ISD connection to make calls from their AirTel cellphones at 30 per cent lower than landline STD calls.
