A 23-year-old cook of a fast-food centre was found murdered in the Burtola area early on Sunday. The body, with multiple injuries, was found on the floor of the shop on APC Road. The only other worker of the shop is missing. Police said personal rivalry may have led to the murder. “The needle of suspicion points to the the missing worker,” said Soumen Mitra, deputy commissioner of police (detective department).
Shop-owner Sanjay Shaw told the police that victim Vivek Khatuah arrived in the city from Midnapore a fortnight ago. Bapi Bera, the missing worker, was his help. Bera had been with the shop for the past few months.
The injury marks, said the investigators, were inflicted by a sharp weapon, like a kitchen knife or a chopper. The body had been slashed open. The weapon is missing.
