Road mishaps take toll of two

Road mishaps claimed two lives in Howrah on Monday. Police said 49-year-old Milan Ari was walking along National Highway when a speeding vehicle knocked him down at 7 am. Bystanders took him to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon. The driver escaped with the vehicle.

In the other accident, 40-year-old Samir Nath was cycling along Pachla-Bauria Road, in central Howrah, when the driver of a sand-filled lorry knocked him down. He was run over by the rear wheels of the lorry, witnesses said. They rushed him to hospital, caught hold of the driver and his help and handed them over to the police.
