Zurich, May 3 (Agencies): This year’s women’s World Cup will be moved from China on medical advice because of the outbreak of SARS, Fifa said Saturday.
“The Fifa Medical Committee had advised against holding the world championship in China,” Fifa said in a statement.
The meet was due to take place from September 23 to October 11. A new venue would be announced within a few weeks. The US and Australia had expressed interest.
Malaysia has been declared winners of a pre-Olympic soccer match after Turkmenistan defied Fifa and refused to travel to Kuala Lumpur because of the SARS outbreak.
