New Delhi, April 23: Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today submitted a memorandum to deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, seeking “speedy action” to ensure that people can “freely participate” in the panchayat elections slated for May 11 and campaign without fear.
Alleging that Left Front activists were preventing Opposition candidates from filing nominations and were perpetrating atrocities against rivals, Mamata demanded Central action.
The Trinamul chief has also requested Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi to allow a short-duration discussion on the West Bengal situation.
Mamata had briefed Advani and the Prime Minister on the situation in the state on Sunday.
