“West Bengal does not have a single case of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome),” state health minister Surjya Kanta Mishra announced on Friday.
Bolstering his claim was the fact that the 22-year-old businessman from Gorakhpur, admitted at Beleghata Infectious Diseases Hospital with what was suspected to be SARS, is ready to be discharged in a couple of days. Friday found him “fine”, with the fever gone and the respiratory condition improving, doctors at the hospital said.
“As soon as we get the test report and are satisfied, he will be discharged,” hospital superintendent Swapan Biswas confirmed on Friday. The patient, picked up from Calcutta airport on Wednesday, told doctors on Friday that he wanted to go home. His family spent a lot of time with him.
