Rajouri blast kills four

Jammu, March 13: The army was called in the border town of Rajouri after an explosion in a bus, which killed four persons, triggered massive street protests and violence.

The blast ripped off a parked bus in the congested Rajouri bus stand. Sixteen people were wounded. The condition of two was said to be very critical.

Police said a powerful bomb went off in the Jammu-bound bus around 11 am. The fuel tank of the vehicle caught fire and the bus was reduced to a metal skeleton. Flames and smoke enveloped the area.

The explosion sparked off massive protests and violence in which 34 people were injured. Irate mobs blamed the police for failing to check recurring explosions in Rajouri town. Two days ago, two persons were killed in an explosion in a shop.

The station house officer of the Rajouri police station was among those injured in the mob violence today.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the explosion yet.
