Mumbai: Mahindra United scored once in each half to beat Dempo Sports Club, Goa 2-0 in the National Football League at the Cooperage Tuesday. Mahindra have 17 points from 16 matches while Dempo have 23 points.
In the eighth minute, Mahindra were awarded a spot-kick when their skipper Debjit Ghosh was brought down by Dempo defender Ratan Singh inside the box. Striker Ednei Jose Damasio made no mistake from the spot.
Eight minutes after the breather, Mahindra increased the lead when winger Mongba Aby Samson headed home medio James Singh’s cross.
In another match in Chennai, three quick goals helped Vasco thrash Indian Bank 4-1. Vasco opened their account in the 31st minute when Satish Minz booted home from close. Riston Rodrigues made it 2-0 in the 55th minute. Jayasuriya reduced the margin for the bankem from the spot a minute later.
The Lankan squandered another penalty a little later, shooting straight to Vasco ’keeper Rogerio Ramos. Angelo Gomes and Pereira then scored in quick succession to kill off Indian Bank challenge. (PTI)
