London: Manchester United and AC Milan registered crucial victories Wednesday to take huge steps toward the quarter finals of the Champions League.
Manchester United escaped with a 2-1 victory over Juventus at Old Trafford. In the other group D match, Basel upset Spain’s Deportivo 1-0. AC Milan defeated Lokomotiv Moscow 1-0 and stayed atop group C. In the other group C match, defending champions Real Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1.
In Milan, a second-half goal by Jon Dahl Tomasson gave the Italians victory. In Madrid, Ronaldo scored his first Champions League goal for Real as the champions battled back. In Manchester, Wes Brown’s goal after four minutes and Ruud van Nistelrooy’s effort in the 85th gave Manchester United victory. (AP)
