For a noble cause

Charity begins at home — goes the saying and, for the city-based theatre group, Shohan, this is definitely true. This group has been instrumental in organising funds for thalassaemic patients for the past few years by organising theatre festivals. This year, the festival begins today with the staging of Sansriti’s play, Winkle Twinkle. directed by Debesh Chattopadhyay. The line-up for the next six days are: February 14: Theatre Passion’s Andar Baahir (dir: Ramaprasad Banik); February 15: Shohan’s Asadbimba (dir: Aneesh Ghosh); February 16: Goutamer Kathakata — Khelabhola (a compilation of Tagore’s verses interspersed with folk verses) presented by Goutam Haldar. This is an experimental solo performance premiered at Natyaswapnakalpo 2002; February 16: Sayak’s Badhutantra (dir: Meghnad Bhattacharya); February 17: Gandhar’s Chaar Duar (dir: Meghnad Bhattacharya); February 18: Chetana will stage two of its latest productions, Kalantak Laalfita and Phalguni (suchana parbo — introductory phase). Directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay, these plays were premiered at Natyaswapnakalpo 2001-2002.
