March 12 - 22 at Bijon Theatre: On the occasion of the completion of its 30 years, Sayak organises a full-length drama competition and invites groups from Calcutta, West Bengal and even outside the state to participate in this event. A total of 10 groups will be selected for this competition. Application forms are available at Bijon Theatre and the last date of application is February 17.


February 8 at Kala Mandir; 10 pm (nightlong): Desh Parampara — Solo sarod recitals by Ayaan Ali Bangash, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Accompanied by Ustad Sabir Khan, Pandit Anindya Chattopadhyay, Tanmoy Bose and Subhankar Banerjee. February 9 at Rabindra Sadan; 10.30 am: In aid of charity, Maya Social Welfare Organisation presents a programme of classical music featuring Tanmoy Bose in Tal Tantra — The Rhythm Saga, and Kaushiki Chakraborty in a vocal recital.

Till February 10 at The Seagull Arts and Media Resource Centre; 2 pm- 7 pm: The Seagull Foundation for the Arts, in collaboration with Intel Asia Electronics Inc., presents A Hundred Flowers: Posters for Peaceful Coexistence. The exhibition is the outcome of an inter-school poster design competition non the theme of peaceful coexistence among communities.


Till today at Sandre Hall, Calcutta school of Music; 2.30 pm - 6.30 pm: Congo Sqare hosts a two-day rock-jazz-fusion music workshop. Till February 9 at Academy of Fine Arts; 3 pm - 8 pm: An art workshop organised by Mukta Shilpa (Forum for Free Art).


February 9 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar; 11 am: Professor P.Lal reads of the ecological significance of Yudhisthira’s Dream of the Deer and the story of Mudgala, in the 166th weekly session of his complete English transcreation of Vyasa’s Mahabharata.


February 9 at Srijan, 176 Sarat Bose Road; 10 am - 12.30 pm: Srijan in collaboration with the Australian Literary Study Centre hosts a ‘Face to Face’ session with two of Australia’s renowned author-poets: Booker Prize winner novelist Peter Carey and aboriginal novelist and poet Kim Scott. It will be followed by a discussion on the emergence and prosperity of post-colonial writers with panelists from the city including Amitava Roy, Deb Narayan Bandopadhyay and Subir Dhar.

February 8 at Rani Birla Girls’ College, 38 Shakespeare Sarabi; 3 pm - 5 pm: A reunion of all former students, teachers and non-teaching staff of Rani Birla Girls’ College. Organised by The Rani Birla Girls’ College Alumni Association.
