Calcutta, Feb. 3: Infotech major Wipro Technologies’ software development centre (SDC) in the city is expected to be operational from June 2004.
Sudip Banerjee, president for enterprise solutions, said: “A May end deadline has been set for the completion of the sub-structure and the super structure will be completed by September this year. The first phase of the centre, which will be built over 80,000 sq ft, is expected to be operational by mid-2004.”
The first phase of the integrated solutions centre would comprise two software development blocks, a learning centre, recreation centre and utility block.
“The centre will initially employ 1000 employees. Around 80 per cent of employees will be fresh recruits,” added Banerjee.
The Rs 50-crore project will be completed in three phases with two software blocks being added in the second and third phases.
