Sydney: Kim Clijsters has enlisted the help of men’s No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt in her bid for another upset win against top-ranked Serena Williams.
The 19-year-old Belgian said she’d been working hard on her physical condition and getting acclimatised to the sweltering heat expected for next week’s Australian Open. She spent the year-end break with Hewitt and his family at Adelaide, where temperatures regularly top 40 degrees celsius in December and January.
Clijsters didn’t deny that she’d had the occasional hitting session with Hewitt, to fine tune for the new season.
“It was pretty hot when I was practising in Adelaide — we had a few 39 C, 40 C degrees out there, so it’s hot,” she said. “I think it definitely helped me get used to it.
“Maybe I’ll have a little bit of an advantage there against the other players. It’s definitely been a good thing for me to be able to do that.” (AP)
