Calcutta: The Young Parliamentarians’ Forum has expressed its full support to the stand taken by the BCCI on the World Cup players contracts issue.
“The Board has taken a patriotic stand. We feel everybody should support the board,” MP and national selector Kirti Azad said Monday.
A letter from Azad, addressed to the BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, also supported the Board. “I would like to covey to you that the BCCI’s decision to support its players and to fight the unjust clauses proposed by the ICC has been widely appreciated,” the letter said.
“In the last few days I have discussed the matter with several colleagues in Parliament. There is unanimous support for the tough stand of the BCCI from all MPs cutting across party lines,” the letter adds.
Azad said members of the forum have also spoke to sports minister Vikram Verma.
Azad also lauded Dalmiya’s decision to resign from the Contracts Committee saying “not many people would have dared to take such an extreme step”.
