Call the cop for a date with the star

Darjeeling, Dec. 11: The hills have come down with “loveria”. So much so, even the law-enforcers have not been spared.

Desperate to get close to Shah Rukh, who is shooting for Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na, fans, mostly pretty young things, are bombarding police with telephone calls requesting them to arrange a date with the superstar.

Inspector-in-charge C. Bhutia, Darjeeling (Sadar), said: “I am fed up with phone calls, mostly from girls, who ring me continuously either at my residence or office wanting to meet the star. They just want me to take them inside the gym where Shah Rukh works out. It is getting too difficult to handle.”

Not only from Darjeeling, Bhutia has been flooded with calls from Kalimpong and Kurseong as well. “Some of them have even got my mobile number and harass me everywhere. Yesterday, a lady rang me up to inform that a group will come from Kurseong on December 15 and I am supposed to take them to the actor for a photo,” the official said.

The craze was something that was missing when Shah Rukh last visited the hill station a decade ago to film Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, where he was stung with “loveria” for Juhi Chawla and waltzed his way into the hearts of a nation waiting for a middle-class icon.

If the girls flock to Bodyzone, the health centre frequented by Shah Rukh, their male counterparts are not too far behind.

A thick letter, addressed to the actor, landed at the local police station this morning. The letter was from a die-hard “unemployed” fan from Bholadhapi in Jalpaiguri district, who requested the inspector-in-charge in his cover message to deliver the mail to Shah Rukh.

The letter, posted on December 9, was complete with a passport size snap of Shah Rukh pasted on it. “I guess I will have to deliver it to Shah Rukh,” said Bhutia, who is looking after the security of the team staying in Darjeeling for the shoot.

Shah Rukh tries his best to appease his fans, unsuccessfully of course. He makes it a point to wave to the crowd from every window he passes as he climbs up the four-storied building housing the health club.

“On Monday evening, one boy from Calcutta fanatically requested me to let him into the gym. I did not and while Shah Rukh was coming out, the boy was still requesting. It seemed the star heard his plea as he stopped, pointed to the youth and called him personally to take a snap with him. The boy was in seventh heaven,” Bhutia said.

Police are now bracing for the onslaught — this time from the males — when Sushmita Sen arrives here over the weekend.
