Month-long cultural event ahead

Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma will be the inaugural artiste in the month-long event of the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (Spicmacay), beginning November 13.

Titled Virasat 2002, Kolkata, the event will comprise music, dance, folk presentations, craft workshops, theatre and lecture demonstrations by prominent personalities across the country.

A medley of artistes, comprising noted Hindustani classical singer Arun Bhaduri, upcoming vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty, sarod players Rajeeb and Reena Chakraborty, folk artiste Kartik Das Baul and dancers Priti Patel (Manipuri), Malabika Mitra and Susmita Banerjee (Kathak) and Sonal Mansingh (Odissi) will perform at various venues of the city.

The famous Chhau dance of Purulia will be the concluding item of the month-long event.

The venues are West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Future Foundation, M.B. Girls’ High School, IIM-Joka, B.E. College, Shibpur, La Martinere for Girls, St Thomas Girls’ School, Modern High School and Ice Skating Rink.
