Winter flights to Singapore

The Singapore Airlines flight schedule to and from Calcutta has been modified with effect from December 1, 2002, to avoid possible flight delays due to poor visibility at night during winter. The new schedule will remain in effect till February 15, 2003. Flight SQ416 will leave for Singapore at 9.50 pm on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The return flight will reach Calcutta at 4.25 am on the following days. Flight SQ415 will leave at 7.05 pm on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The return flight arrives at 8.35 pm.

Trio in net for cash threats

Three criminals were arrested on Sunday on charges of fleecing some traders in Behala. The traders had earlier told the police that the goons were threatening them regularly for cash. Patrolling has been intensified in the area.

Welfare warcry

Transport minister Subhas Chakraborty and Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Satyabrata Mukherjee on Saturday called upon city youths to involve themselves in social welfare activities. The ministers, who gave away Puja safety awards at a south Calcutta cinema, said they were worried with the recent spurt in crime among the youth.


Traffic in Asokenagar, on the northern fringes of the city, came to a halt for more than three hours on Sunday morning after residents blocked roads to protest the hike in bus fares.

Diabetes Day

Diabetic Association of India has arranged a variety of programmes on November 14, World Diabetes Day. There will be a walk for diabetes, free blood glucose monitoring and a free ophthalmological check-up.
