Chennai, Nov. 9: In a major shake-up, Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa tonight dropped three ministers from her Cabinet and inducted five others.
Jayalalithaa gave the marching orders to food minister P. Dhanapal, backward classes minister K. Sudarsanam, and labour minister V.T. Natarajan.
Former ADMK minister Anwar Raja was rewarded for defending the government’s Bill banning forcible religious conversions and has been re-inducted as labour minister.
R. Vadivelu, who was elected from the Vaniyambadi constituency in the May bypolls, has been entrusted with the rural industries portfolio. T. Mohan will be the new food minister.
A. Pappa Sundaram, the MLA from Kulithalai, has joined as the new backward classes minister.
P.V. Damodaran is the new animal husbandry minister while R. Vaithilingam, who had been relieved in a previous reshuffle, has been taken in as the new minister in charge of environment and forests.
In some reallocation of portfolios, Mr.Nainar Nagendran will now look after Electricity and Industries only, even as Mr.M.C.Sampath, has shed his Housing portfolio. Instaed, Mr.Anita Radhakrishnan, formerly Animal Husbandry Minister, has been redisignated as Minister for Housing and Urban Development, says a Raj Bhavan communique.
