Inflation falls to 3.02 %

New Delhi, Oct 20: The rate of inflation declined by 0.32 per cent to 3.02 per cent for the week ended October 5 even as vegetables became costlier and the price of fuel went up. The hike in vegetable prices was to a great extent contained by fall in the price of foodgrains and fruits, leading to point-to-point wholesale price index (WPI) dip for the third consecutive week.The index was 3.34 per cent in the previous week and 3.18 per cent a year ago. The WPI for the period declined by 0.1 per cent to 167.2 from 167.3 a week ago. It was at 162.4 in the corresponding period last year.


New Delhi, Oct 20: Domestic two-wheeler sales went up 24 per cent during the first six months this fiscal on the back of a booming motorcycle market. A total of 24 lakh two-wheelers were sold during April- September, 2002 over 19.36 lakh units a year ago.

FII purchases

Mumbai, Oct 20: Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in equities at Rs 56.1 crore ($ 11.5 million) during the trading week ended October 18.

Air-India move

Mumbai, Oct 20: Air-India has decided to hedge on certain percentage of its fuel requirement following the recent spurt in the oil prices to nearly 110 cents per gallon against 95-97 cents a month back.

SAIL plan

New Delhi, Oct 20: Riding high on the demand upsurge in the domestic market, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has planned to invest up to Rs 1,500 crore as capital expenditure over the next three years.
