United ride Ruud penalty

London: A goal by Nwankwo Kanu two minutes into injury time gave champions Arsenal a dramatic 2-1 victory over 10-man Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday.

The win kept Arsenal top of the table on 17 points, two ahead of Liverpool, who had a 2-0 home success over West Bromwich Albion. Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 thanks to a Ruud van Nistelrooy penalty, Newcastle United overcame Sunderland 2-0 in the Northeast derby and Middlesbrough had a 1-0 home win over Birmingham City to move up to sixth.

Southampton against Charlton Athletic and West Ham United against Manchester City were both goalless. Tottenham drop to third on 13 points, one ahead of Leeds United and Chelsea.

Arsenal started strongly against a Bolton side who drew at Highbury last year but when Thierry Henry hit the post with an early penalty there were a few worried faces in the stands.
