Title for Calcutta Police

Calcutta, Sept. 7: Calcutta Police beat Future Hope 14-12 in the closely-fought final of the Calcutta Cup rugby meet at the CC&FC ground on Saturday. Amitabha Rakshit of Calcutta Police had a good outing in the middle, converting three penalties, but his teammate, Jagadish Mondal, was adjudged the most valuable player in the final.

This is the policemen’s second title of the season, having earlier won the 10-A-Side meet at the same ground.

Full points for Md. AC

Mohammedan AC and Kidderpore SC beat Peerless SC and Eastern Coalfield, respectively, by identical 1-0 margin while Sonali Shibir rode strikes of Raju Das and Prasanta Roy to win over Rajasthan Club in the CFL first division group A on Saturday. M. Oforie scored for Mohammedan AC while Prasanta Chakraborty hit the matchwinner for Kidderpore.

However, the match between Bata SC and Howrah Union was abandoned as the referee failed to turn up at the Mohammedan Sporting ground.

In other group A action, Ramesh Mandi and Shubhendu Godhak scored in Milan Bithee’s 2-1 win against Kalighat Club. Sandip Karmakar pulled one back for the losers. George Telegraph and Wari AC played out a 1-1 draw.

CAB XI win

After three defeats in a row, CAB XI finally opened their account in the Moin-ud-Dowla meet, beating Combined Districts XI by eight wickets. Sourashish Lahiri (three for 27) restricted Combined Districts to 123 for six. CAB then rode fine knocks from Aurijit Basu (59) and Rohan Gavaskar (39) to register an easy win.

Brief scores: Combined Districts XI 123/6 in 32 ovs (Seshagiri Rao 32, Kiran Kumar 21; Sourashish Lahiri 3/27, Ranadeb Bose 1/24). CAB XI 124/2 in 25.5 ovs (Aurijit Basu 59, Rohan Gavaskar 39, Subhamoy Das 17 n.o.). CAB XI won by 8 wkts.

Yadav for Tapan

Former India wicketkeeper Vijay Yadav will play for Tapan Memorial in the CAB league next season. He switched allegiance from City AC.
