Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim on Saturday urged legislators to give up smoking.
Halim was addressing a two-day training programme on ‘combating the tobacco menace’ at Parivesh Bhavan in Salt Lake, which was attended by around 100 MLAs. The programme was organised jointly by the state government and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“I urge the legislators not to smoke in public. This gesture will inspire people, particularly the youth, to give up this unhealthy habit,” he said. Health minister Surya Kanta Mishra emphasised the need for initiating an anti-tobacco campaign.
