Gopi loses in 3rd round

Singapore: India’s Pullela Gopichand has lost to Singapore’s Ronald Susilo in the third round of the Singapore Open badminton championship on Thursday. The former All England championlost 8-15, 12-15.

The unseeded Gopichand started his campaign in Singapore with a 15-4, 15-2 win over Chinese third seed Lin Dan before beating Hong Kong’s Ng Wei 15-3, 15-13 in the second round.

Meanwhile, top seeds Camilla Martin and Zhou Mi strolled through the women’s first round, with seventh- seed Kim Kyeung-ran the only headline player to fall.

Judith Meulendijks of the Netherlands scored a surprise 11-5, 5-11, 13-12 win over the Korean ace. Top seed Martin from Denmark, the current All England champion and looking for her first title here, had few problems against Hong Kong’s Koon Wai Chee Louise, winning 11-2, 11-7. (Agencies)
