Gymkhana take on Future Hope in title-round

Calcutta: Defending champions Bombay Gymkhana coasted into the final of the Famous Grouse All India and Asia rugby championship, beating hosts CFC 41-6 Thursday. They will meet Future Hope in the final. Future Hope crushed LMOB 27-3 in another one-sided semi-final.

Bombay Gymkhana had seven tries converted by Geoff Carolan (two), Muffildul Indeswola, Todd Lauchlan, Nick Allison, Chirag Tanna and Minal Pastak. They also had three conversions by Chaitanya Singh. The CFC team had two penalties converted by E. Hawtawani.

The second semi-final between Future Hope and LMOB was marked by frayed tempers. But the Future Hope team showed much better cohesion as they raced away to a 22-0 lead in the first session. The LMOB boys tried to make a fight out of it in the second session, but it was not enough.

Future Hope had seven tries which were utilised by Sukra Ekka (two), Chris Procter, Mintu Mondal and Md Yunus Hossain. Hossain also had one conversion for the winners. LMOB, on the other hand a penalty converted by Claudius Chow.

Meanwhile, Chaitanya will lead the Indian team for the forthcoming Asian Championships to be held in Bankok in November. Famous Grouse will be the official sponsor of the team. The rest of the Indian team will be selected after this meet.
