Parks, restaurants, cinema halls as well as temples wore a similar look on Friday as couples, young and old, spent a day out on Valentine’s Day.

Married and single women made it a point to visit temples early in the morning followed by a day out with their beaus at parks, restaurants and theatres. Smartly-dressed couples thronged Nehru Park, Umananda temple, state zoo, Basistha temple and other popular spots in and around the city.

Couples also made a beeline to the nearest theatre to catch a show of Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal, to find out how the first on-screen pairing of actors Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aryan performed in the Friday release.

A red rose, the quintessential symbol of love, was the gift of choice for many, and flower-sellers had a field day although many complained of a fall in profits.

If one can say it with flowers, it is also possible to do it with tea, albeit a special one. This is the premise on which Aromica Tea recently introduced Valentine Tea — a blend of white peony, sweetened strawberry, blue berry, a dash of red rose petals and dark chocolate chips. Saffron strings are also interspersed with the tea blend to boost the flavour and taste.

“Valentine Tea gives a very subtle floral and fruity taste. It is for your loved one and a pack of this tea infuses love within. It is a perfect gift on this special occasion to celebrate health, happiness, love and smiles,” Aromica Tea proprietor Ranjit Baruah told The Telegraph.

It is a day also which couples look forward to a special dinner and a chance to shake a leg. Special events were organised by many eateries and watering holes, including Terra Mayaa, Retro Town, Botanee, Al Fresco, Octave, Vivanta Guwahati and Underdoggs, among others.

A group of environmentally-conscious youth, under the banner of Fridays for Future, took the opportunity to remind everybody to love nature and preserve the environment.
