Winter Session of Parliament set to miss key bills

Data protection bill and bills to amend banking act, insolvency law and competition commission act have not been included for legislative business

During the forthcoming Winter Session of Parliament beginning on December 7, the Modi government has listed 16 Bills for introduction. However, the list does not include any key economic legislation.

According to the schedules notified by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the government will table supplementary demands for grants, seeking permission for spending more than originally planned for the current financial year.

Among the 16 new Bills includes those proposing a globally compatible trademark registration system, repeal of redundant laws and tighter regulation of multi-state cooperative societies.

The session is due to start on December 7 and continue till December 29 with a total of 17 sittings.

However, the data protection bill and bills to amend banking act, insolvency law and competition commission act have not been included for legislative business.
