From online and offline competitions to seminars on Food Technology, the hybrid fest had much to offer

The Food Technology department at Techno Main Salt Lake served up a mix of food technology principles and creativity at Sampriti 2022: Technical Day, the departmental fest, on May 14. Edugraph was the digital media partner of the event.

Five competitions were held during the day — two on campus and the rest virtually.

“I learned a lot of managerial skills. The seminar was impressive, the event was conducted smoothly and, in a nutshell, it was the experience of a lifetime to be cherished forever,” said Sayaree Joardar, a fourth-year Food Technology student and the technical head of Sampriti 2022.

Here’s what unfolded through the day:

RePresent: Participants were asked to design and present posters during this offline event. The topics were Food Processing and Nutritional Quality of Food, Food Processing and Innovative Food Product Development, Supply Chain Management and Food Biotech and Functionality.

Innovation Hunt: The first round was Food for Thought, a quiz. Those qualifying participated in Bridge the Gap. Here, students were given a product that they had to develop. The final round, Food Tank, saw the students pitch their unique business ideas. Rithika Chakraborty and Rupsa Chakraborty, both third-year students, were the winners.

Penscraft: This was an online article writing competition. Topics ranged from Food Processing and Nutritional Quality of Food, Food Processing and Innovative Food Product Development, Supply Chain Management and Food Biotech and Functionality.

Wrap Art: This online event required the participants to label a food product.

Food per Second: An online food photography competition.

The technical fest ended with a seminar on the Application of Rural Technology in Agro Product Processing and Preservation. The speakers included Yeshwant Kumar, plant head and assistant general manager, operations, IFB Agro Industries Limited; and Manidip Roy, deputy general manager, quality audit function, Spencer’s Retail Limited. The seminar was attended by 130 students and 15 faculty members.
