Indus Valley World School is all set to host its maiden Literary Fest, “Lit-A-Thon – a Magical Literary Ride” on 19th and 20th September for the students of Classes III to IX. The children will participate in innovatively designed sessions with writers and speakers from diverse fields and engage in activities designed to help them discover the pleasures of reading and creative writing. Although most of the sessions will be in English, a few Bangla sessions have been included to try and spark interest among the students who, exceptions apart, are generally averse to reading in their mother tongue.

For the 2023 edition, “Lit-A-Thon” will host approximately 20 speakers and writers. The sessions will include discussions and activities based on famous literary figures and characters, and the importance of storytelling. This specially curated festival will feature a number of hands-on activities - including creative reflections of a text through the art of illustration. The event will also include dialogues on topics of current importance such as climate change, the significance of the female agency in Literature, immigration politics and the art of translation.

What promises to be a fascinating session is an attempt to deep-dive into all the processes involved in the creation and publication of a book from the manuscript stage till it finally reaches the bookshelf – including the role of the editor, illustrator, publisher and bookseller. Detective fiction remains one of the most popular genres among students and the much-loved Feluda becomes the obvious choice for a session devoted exclusively to him!

“Lit-A-Thon” aims at helping students find their will and urge to read and realise the exercise to be a “magical” one. It also intends to hone their skills of creative outflow and independent expression.
