Dr Grahams Homes, a residential school in Kalimpong district of North Bengal, on Sunday, December 17, organised a 'Christmas Carnival' at Birkmyre Hostel in Kolkata to support the underprivileged and marginalised children studying at the school.

The 'Christmas Carnival' saw people from different walks of life, coming together and setting up various stalls to support the cause. The carnival also witnessed enthusiastic participation from the common people who gathered on the occasion to support the needy children at the school.

"The proceeds of the Christmas Carnival will go towards funding the studies of the underprivileged children studying at our school. We try to get support for them from various sources. The Christmas Carnival at Birkmyre Hostel is one of them," said Shane Calvert, the Chairman of the Board of Governors at Dr Graham's Homes School.

The carnival started at 3 PM in the afternoon which was soon visited by the Santa Clause who brought in gifts and chocolates for the children present at the carnival and wished them Merry Christmas. The children, really excited to see the Santa Clause, crowded to click selfies.

"Every year, 50 percent students are admitted on a need basis, i.e on the basis of how badly do they need a home to survive. These students are then sponsored by the alumni, the people who have gone through the same situation and have grown up doing well for themselves. We also have a couple of fundraisers including the christmas carnival at Birkmyre hostel," said Pauline Singh, member of the board of management and Secretary of the School Managing Committee adding that the school presently funds the education of nearly 300 children in Kalimpong.

The audience present at the carnival was mesmerised by the 'School Choir' comprising of the supported children, as they sang the Christmas Carol. The visitors were also seen singing to the tunes of the school children.

The school was established in 1923 with the primary objective to uplift the lives of the under-privileged children and continues its endeavour even after 123 years.
