President Donald Trump says US has struck trade deal with Vietnam

Trump made the post after he was believed to have held a call with Vietnam about the status of trade talks, according to two people familiar with the plans

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he has struck a trade deal with Vietnam and would announce details later. "I just made a Trade Deal with Vietnam," Trump posted on Truth Social. "Details to follow!"

Trump made the post after he was believed to have held a call with Vietnam about the status of trade talks, according to two people familiar with the plans.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Vietnam will pay a 20% tariff on all goods sent to U.S. territory and a 40% tariff on transshipping as part of a trade deal.

"The Terms are that Vietnam will pay the United States a 20% Tariff on any and all goods sent into our Territory, and a 40% Tariff on any Transshipping," he said in a truth social post.

"They will 'OPEN THEIR MARKET TO THE UNITED STATES,' meaning that, we will be able to sell our product into Vietnam at ZERO Tariff."
