Israel was not aware that U.S. President Donald Trump was potentially close to a deal with Iran that would end the war and pave the way to unblock shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, an Israeli source familiar with the matter said.

Rather, Israel was preparing for an escalation in fighting, said the source, speaking on condition of anonymity.
