Afghanistan: 12 injured after explosion at Sunni mosque

No casualties have been reported so far, but details are awaited

An explosion wreaked havoc in a mosque at the Spin Ghar district of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan today, wounding at least 12 people including the imam, according to Reuters.

The report further adds that Atal Shinwari, a resident informed the news agency that the blast occurred at around 1:30 p.m. when explosives inside were detonated. A Taliban official, on condition of anonymity confirmed the blast adding “casualties were feared” but details are awaited. No outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The mosque was usually frequented by Sunni Muslims. Past attacks since the Taliban on Shi'ite mosques and have been claimed by the Sunni militant group Islamic State.
