A Trinamul Congress worker was found dead with multiple injuries in a canal near Tapan in South Dinajpur on Monday morning.

Police suspect Milan Biswas, 24, a fish seller, was murdered with a sharp weapons.

Sources said Biswas used to ride to the wholesale fish market at Gangarampur on his motorcycle every morning. Later in the day, he would sell fish at the market in Nababnagar.

“He left for Gangarampur on his motorcycle this morning but did not return home. After some hours, his body was found in a canal near his house. We suspect he has been murdered. Gold ornaments which he was wearing and around Rs 15,000 with him are missing,” said a police officer.

Raju Das, a Trinamul leader at Tapan, said the party suspected that the BJP had a hand in Biswas’s murder. The BJP rejected the charge.
