Screen cry on defectors to Bengal BJP

The need for a “background check” mechanism on defectors, mainly from Trinamul, featured prominently at a chintan baithak (strategy session) of the Bengal BJP on Saturday.

According to sources present on the first day of the two-day meeting in Durgapur, sections of the state leadership flagged concerns over engineering an “indiscriminate exodus” from other parties even as the people were looking to the BJP for change.

The defections have been allegedly engineered by former Trinamul leader Mukul Roy and BJP national general-secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya. Both leaders were present at the session when the screening demand was made.
