Railway employee run over by passenger train in Dooars

After the incident, a passenger train bound forAlipurduar from Siliguri Junction was halted at Bagrakote station

A railway employee posted in the Dooars died after being hit by a passenger train on Friday morning.

Sources said Gopal Das, 39, was crossing the railway bridge over the Ghish river near Odlabari of Jalpaiguri when the Kamakhya bound Puri-Kamakhya Express reached the stretch around 9.15am.

Residents said that asthere were no railings orextra space on the bridge,Das got flummoxed, was hitby the train, and died on the spot.

After the incident, a passenger train bound forAlipurduar from Siliguri Junction was halted at Bagrakote station and the Siliguri-bound Intercity Express fromAlipurduar stopped at Damdim.

Officials of GRP and Malbazar police station recovered the body. An inquiry has started.

Around 10.20am, the movement of trains was restored along the route.
