One arrested with fake medicines in Alipurduar

Police in Alipurduar acted on a tip-off and arrested a person carrying fake medicines from Cooch Behar to Jaigaon on Tuesday night.

Police sources said they got information that the person was to Jaigaon from Cooch Behar in a car. As the vehicle reached Sonapur, police intercepted it. A search yielded 14,300 pieces of fake tablets.

Police are keeping the identity of the arrested person under wraps for the purposes of the investigation.

“The fake tablets have been seized. We suspect the arrested person is associated with a racket that circulates fake medicine. A few days back, another person was arrested in Jaigaon with fake medicines. Our officers are probing the case,” said a senior police officer.

In another incident, foresters searched a passenger train bound for New Cooch Behar and seized illegal timber from it on Wednesday.
