The maximum and minimum temperatures were higher than Friday’s but the cold feeling was intact because the sun remained cloaked in clouds, resulting in low day temperature.

On Sunday, the sky will remain partially cloudy in the first half with the sun making occasional appearances, according to the Met forecast.

“The sky will start clearing from the second half, triggering a dip in temperature that will be felt from Monday,” a Met official said.

Once the sky clears, cold winds from north India, which had been blocked by the moisture in the atmosphere, will blow freely into the city. The temperature is likely to dip to 12 degrees Celsius in the next 72 hours, the Met official said.

The cyclonic circulation that led to Friday’s showers has moved to Bangladesh, a weather scientist said. The system had triggered around 30mm of rain in Calcutta on Friday, the most in a January day since 2012. The maximum temperature had fallen seven notches to 18 degrees Celsius, the lowest in at least seven years, another Met official said.

The maximum temperature on Saturday was 19.6 degrees, five notches below normal.
