Higher-secondary examinees at Sovanagar High School in Malda’s Englishbazar block and their guardians were pleasantly surprised on Saturday when they were offered masks free of cost and hand sanitiser before entering the venue.
Along with them, such items were also provided to the invigilators, non-teaching employees and even the police personnel posted on the campus.
“Understanding the demand and the necessity of these items, we engaged members of the school’s science club. Under the guidance of teachers, they started making masks at the school campus. Hand sanitisers were made at the school lab,” said Hariswami Das, the headmaster of Sovanagar High School.
The school recently bagged the best secondary educational institution award in the state.
“The cost of making a mask is as low as Re 1 and the production cost of hand sanitisers is quite affordable for us. Soon after we floated the proposal among members of our science club, the students voluntarily came forward and in small batches of three or four students, they started making the masks and hand-sanitisers,” Das said.
